Pinch (card game)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zwicken is a card game that is mainly played in Bavaria . As a game of chance, it is subject to certain restrictions and is therefore rarely widespread.

classification

The game is generally considered a hazard game and was included on the list of prohibited games by the Imperial and Royal Ministry of Justice . For example, it is mentioned by Ludwig Ganghofer in the Hauserin as follows: "In the Herrgottswinkel he saw the landlord sitting with some village idlers who passed the time with pinching, a card game that, as the vernacular says, comes right after stealing." .

Rules of the game

Two to ten, but mostly four to six players take part in the game. The game is played with the Bavarian hand with 32 cards. As with wadding , the 7 bells , the so-called Welli or Belli , often play a special role .

First, the dealer, who moves clockwise from game to game, must place the bet on the stick. The stake is an amount that can be divided by three, usually 15 or 30 cents. Before the cards are dealt, they are shuffled and picked up by the player sitting behind the dealer. Then each player is dealt a card three times. After the deal, the dealer has to choose the trump suit. He has two options for this:

  • the dealer can lick , that is, he reveals the top card of the pile and places it on top of the pile.
  • the dealer can Titschen , that is, he reveals the top of his three cards. This card remains revealed even if he picks up the three cards. However, if the dealer hits, he must participate in the next game.

The color of the revealed card is trump in the following game.

Then, in turn, all players have the choice of taking part in the game or discarding the cards. If neither player picks up the cards, the dealer wins the entire stick unless he himself has no trump.

The first player in clockwise order from the dealer to pick up plays any of his three cards. In a clockwise direction, the others admit. A suit or trump must be served. If a player does not have a card of the suit played, he must play trump insofar as he has trumps. Whoever admitted the highest card or the highest trump wins the trick . The following order of the trump cards applies (from highest to lowest):

  • Trump- Daus (Ace)
  • Trump King
  • Trumpf top
  • Trump Under
  • Trump 10
  • Trump 9
  • Trump 8
  • Trump 7

The following order of priority applies to the remaining colors:

  • Color Ace to Color 7 of the suit played

When the three stitches are distributed, the stick is distributed. If you have three tricks you get the whole stick, if you have 2 tricks you get two thirds, whoever has one trick receives a third. If you don't have a trick, you have to deposit the entire stock for the next game. If several players have not taken a trick, they must each deposit the contents of the stick into the next stick. If exactly 3 players played and each took a trick, that counts as a 'brother' and the money stays in the stick.

Game variants

The welli is often the second highest trump card after the dhow (ace).

Sometimes it is agreed before the start that with licking is recorded. What is meant is that if the withdrawer withdraws a 7 or an ace, the cards are immediately passed on to the next dealer, who in turn has to make his bet.

Another variant is called with all around . If the dealer licks and reveals an ace or a seven, each player must pay the stake into the stock and the cards go to the next dealer.

Alternatively, the cards are also passed on to the next dealer in the case of a king, in the case of an ace to the next but one (whereby the skipped one must also pay in), in the case of Welli (bells 7), Soach / Spitz (acorn 7), each player must pay the stake , with Max (King of Hearts) even double. Playing with take off is a further exacerbation of the already very sharp game.

If only the dealer's bet is in the pot, a blind is often also played, i.e. the players do not look at their cards (playing is mandatory), but simply put them down one after the other. If you didn't take a trick, you have to pay the stake into the stick.

Origin of name

If you don't make a stitch and therefore have to double the stick, you're tweaked . Since he did not lose his money directly, but only paid it into the stock, the victim is inclined to at least partially recover his money in the next round and also to play with a worse hand. This means that he may have to double up again. His opponent also has to put the double "pinch bet" one more time. This, together with the fast type of game, leads to very rapidly growing amounts in the stick, which is why one speaks here of "stick-pinching". Even with a basic bet of 15 cents, you can gamble away “house and yard” very quickly. You can't tweak without spending money.
