List of banned games by the Austro-Hungarian Ministry of Justice

The Imperial and Royal Ministry of Justice published the following list of prohibited games in 1904 , which was supplemented in 1933 and was exemplary in Austria for many years and represents a culturally and historically interesting list of the games of chance popular at the time .

It is particularly noteworthy that there are also some skittles and billiards games on this list, which, according to today's view , are viewed more as games of skill .

Forbidden Games List (1904)

On the basis of Art. III of the Act of 15. VI. 1901, St.G.Bl. No. 286, are by ordinance of 30. VI. In 1904 the following games were named as "prohibited games":

  3. Twenty-one and the similar half past eleven
  4. Pinch (also labet, tap , pound) and his kind of small preference
  5. Approach (also fresh four)
  6. Baccarat ( Macau )
  7. Tartel with whipped thirds
  8. Ticket raffle (also green meadow)
  9. Push (Naschi-Waschi, also my aunt - your aunt)
  10. poker
  11. Coloring
  12. Roulette and the similar racing game
  13. Booky or six dominoes
  14. Polish Bank (Panczok, Mauscheln )
  15. Color bank
  16. Bumper poodle game
  17. Lamps
  18. The holy truth or heart
  19. Bauernschreck or "the red wins"
  20. The skittles game "half past twelve"
  21. The bowling game " Schanzeln "

The prohibited games also include:
