Intermolecular Forces
As intermolecular or intermolecular forces of interaction is called between valenzmäßig dangling molecules . These forces do not include the interactions that cause the chemical bonding of atoms to form molecules. Intermolecular forces are based on Van der Waals forces .
Intermolecular forces are usually much weaker than chemical bonds . They can be observed macroscopically through effects such as surface tension , capillarity as well as adhesion and cohesion forces . Thus intermolecular forces cause the existence of aggregate states of molecular compounds. Without them z. B. behave liquids like gases. A special form of intermolecular forces are hydrogen bonds , the strength of which can be relatively close to the strength of chemical bonds.
