Jānis Miņins

Jānis Miņins (born August 15, 1980 in Kuldīga ) is a former Latvian bobsleigh driver who became European champion in the four-man bobsleigh in 2008 in Cesana Torinese . With this victory he also achieved his first World Cup victory.

Miņins celebrated his first major success in 2004 as a junior world champion in the four-man bobsleigh. In the 2004/2005 season he finished sixth in the four-man bobsleigh competition both in Cortina d'Ampezzo and in Winterberg , each together with Juris Latišs , Ainārs Podnieks and Jānis Ozols . In the 2005/2006 season only Ozols stayed in the four-man bobsleigh team, plus Mārcis Rullis and Intars Dīcmanis . Together they achieved a total of 10th place, in Igls he reached fourth place in the World Cup in the two-man bobsleigh together with Daumants Dreiškens . He won his country's Olympic qualification in Sigulda for the 2006 Olympics in Turin. There he and his team were sixth in the two-man bobsleigh competition and tenth in the four-man competition. His best result in the FIBT World Cup 2007 was a seventh place in the four-bobsleigh competition in St. Moritz . Jānis Miņins was active from 1999 to 2010. In 2009 he was voted Latvian Sportsman of the Year .
