Ulf Hielscher
Ulf Hielscher (born November 30, 1967 in Neubrandenburg ) is a former German bobsleigh driver . He became European and World Champion in 1995.
Ulf Hielscher was originally a hurdler at SC Neubrandenburg . After he had not achieved any major successes, he switched to bobsleigh in Oberhof. In 1994 Ulf Hielscher became German champion in the four-man bobsleigh driven by Wolfgang Hoppe with Axel Kühn and Carsten Embach . At the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer, René Hannemann was there for Axel Kühn. Hoppe, Hielscher, Hannemann and Embach received the bronze medal behind the bobsleds controlled by Harald Czudaj and Gustav Weder . The following year, Hoppe, Hielscher, Hannemann and Embach won both the European championship in Altenberg and the world championship in Winterberg.
For winning the world championship in four-man bobsleigh, he received the silver laurel leaf with the bobsleigh team.
Second was the Austrian Hubert Schösser and his team, and third was Harald Czudaj. In 1996, Hoppe, Hielscher, Hannemann and Embach took second place behind Christoph Langen at the European Championships in St. Moritz .
