Heinz Stettler

Heinz Stettler (born March 1, 1952 in Regensdorf ; † May 24, 2006 ) was a Swiss bobsleigh driver and world champion of 1982 as well as an athlete .

Stettler won the world championship title in the four-man bobsleigh in St. Moritz in 1982 together with Urs Salzmann and Rico Freiermuth and pilot Silvio Giobellina . In 1984 in Innsbruck-Igls and 1985 in St. Moritz they were also European champions . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Sarajevo , he won the bronze medal.

Stettler was not only successful as a bobsledder, but also as a track and field athlete. He won several medals at Swiss championships in the shot put and discus throw . At the age of 54 he died of complications from a heart attack .
