The Jackson County is a county in the northern part of the US state of Colorado . The county seat is in Walden .

geography

The county is located in a 45-65 km wide valley between the Park Range and the Medicine Bow Mountains , which is traversed by the North Platte River and forms the southernmost part of the Wyoming Basin . Like the basin, Jackson County is bounded to the south by the Rabbit Ears Range .

history

The district was established in 1909 as a neutral administrative unit after years of dispute between Grand and Larimer Counties as to which district the disputed area should be assigned to did not lead to any result. It was named after President Andrew Jackson .

During and after World War II, Jackson County was an internment camp for German prisoners of war near the village of Gould.

The county had 1,577 people as of the 2000 census . There were 661 households and 442 families. The population density was 0.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 96.20 percent white, 0.25 percent African American, 0.76 percent Native American, 0.06 percent Asian and 1.46 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.27 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.53 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 661 households, 29.2 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 54.9 percent were married couples living together, 7.9 percent were single mothers. 33.0 percent were not families. 28.4 percent were single households and 10.1 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.91 people.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 25.6 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 5.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 26.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 29.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 13.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.4 males, for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 107.8 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 31,821 , and the median income for a family was $ 37,361. Males had a median income of $ 26,250 versus $ 18,417 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,826. 14.0 percent of the population and 10.3 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 22.5 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 9.0 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
