List of Olympic champions in curling
The list of Olympic champions in curling lists all winners as well as the second and third placed in the curling competitions at the Olympic Winter Games , broken down by men and women. The individual nation ratings conclude.
Competitions
Curling was already part of the official competition program at the first Winter Olympics in 1924 . The sport then disappeared from the Olympic program for many years. Curling has only been included in the Olympic program again since the 1998 Games in Nagano . In contrast to the first competition, where there was only one tournament for men, a women's tournament has also been held since 1998.
A total of three demonstration competitions were held between 1924 and 1998. In 1932 , curlers returned to the Olympics for the first time since the 1924 premiere, but only North American teams participated. It was not until the 1988 Games that demonstration competitions took place again, this time for both men and women. Before curling was officially included in the program, there was one last demonstration competition in 1992 .
So far there have been six official curling competitions with medals for men and five for women. A total of eleven gold medals have been awarded to curling teams at the Winter Olympics. The names of the individual players are listed according to their position. The following order is followed except in 1924: Fourth (usually also Skip), Third, Second, Lead and finally the substitute player.
A mixed doubles has been part of the Olympic program since the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang , which is due to the initiative of the board members of the World Curling Federation under Scottish President Kate Caithness.
