Nils Östensson (born April 29, 1918 in Transtrand , Sweden ; † July 24, 1949 in Risberget , Norway ) was a Swedish cross-country skier and Olympic champion .

Career

Östensen, who started for Hofors AIF and Sälens IF , won the silver medal behind the Finns at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1941 with the Swedish relay team. However, these world championships were officially canceled at a congress of the Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) in 1946. At the Svenska Skidspelen in 1947 he won the 17 km race. In St. Moritz in 1948 he won the gold medal with the Swedish relay team ( Nils Täpp , Gunnar Eriksson and Martin Lundström ) and the silver medal over 18 km at the Olympic Winter Games . The following year he won the 18 km and 50 km competitions at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival and came second in the 50 km run at the Svenska Skidspelen in Sollefteå . In the same year he died after a motorcycle accident.

Östensen was four times Swedish champion . In 1941 he won the Hofors AIF relay , in 1942 over 15 km, 1947 over 30 km and 1949 over 50 km.
