Tor Arne Hetland (born January 12, 1974 in Stavanger ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who specialized in the sprint disciplines.

Career

Hetland has been running world cup races since the 1996/97 season, and won his first race in Reit im Winkl in December 1996 . In the course of his career there were nine more victories (eight sprint races and one 15 km run). In addition, he came second ten times and third three times. In the 2004/05 season he won the Sprint World Cup, in 2004/05 and 2005/06 he was third overall.

At the 2002 Winter Olympics , Hetland won the gold medal in the sprint. In the same discipline he became world champion in 2001, won the bronze medal in 2003 and the silver medal in 2005. In 2005 he won the team sprint together with Tore Ruud Hofstad , and in 2006 he won the Olympic silver medal with Jens Arne Svartedal . After the end of his career, which he announced in April 2009 due to knee pain, he was the sprint coach of the Swiss national cross-country team from 2010 to 2014. From 2016 to 2018 he was the trainer of the Norwegian national cross-country skiing team.
