Revision as of 02:35, 2 July 2007

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Search engine optimization (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Semi-protect for a day or so. Today's featured article, already vandalized twice[1][2]. 220.227.179.4 02:31, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined TFA's aren't protected unless there are extreme circumstances, see WP:NOPRO. Riana 02:33, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zeitgeist (The Smashing Pumpkins album) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protect. This album has just leaked, and many anonymous users want to add this information to the article, refusing to cite reliable sources (instead they post external links to torrents). –King Bee (τγ) 02:29, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Sandi Toksvig (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Template:RingtailedFox/Directing_Buttons (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Semi-protect. Vandalism from IP addresses on both this page, and the User:RingtailedFox/Directing_Buttons page, to conform with the rest of my pages being semi-protected from vandalism. All my pages have seen a total halt of vandalism once under semi-protection, so i'm requestion Semi-protect for these two pages as well The reason i have both a user page and a template page is that the user sub-page acts as a redirect. Semi-protect - You wouldn't believe how many people think it's hilarious to edit this page to "[someone I know] is the sexist person ever." or "A good example of an attractive person is Sarah Coleman." It's entirely perpetrated by anons. 5 distinct vandals have done this in the last 4 days.--Loodog 21:56, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Meta-templates

Indefinite semi-protect, Meta-templates are vandalism targets and impact server load more than normal templates. Also do not full-protect these as this stifles development. Note: I will be adding {{pp-semi-template}} to the pages after semi-protection. —Dispenser 19:06, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Patrick Pearse (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

This article has been protected against policy by administrator R. fiend. In the past few days an editor with a seemingly dynamic IP has twice removed unsourced information and information sourced from a biased source, and described why in the edit summary. R. fiend has twice reverted these edits with no edit summary or post to the talk page, and after the information was removed again he semi-protected the page. As an editor clearly involved in a content dispute with no BLP problems he cannot semi-protect a page, especially as his actions have prevented the anon editor from editing the page while still allowing established editors to edit. The information was subsequently restored by another editor with the edit summary of "revert deletions by anon editor - have the deceny to get an account and identify yourself", clearly showing the effect the semi-protection has had already. 81.153.128.31 19:22, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Chris Benoit (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

At the end of Chris Benoit#Death, please add the following:

Some media organizations have hypothesized that a steroid-induced rage may be the cause of Benoit's actions, as some doctors have linked steroid use to uncontrollable anger, among other psychological issues which include paranoia.[1][2] However, the WWE has stated that they believe the facts of this crime do not support the hypothesis that "roid rage" played a role in the murders. They cite evidence of premeditation in addition to the lack of a toxicology report, and the fact that the steroids found within Benoit's home were legally prescribed to him.[3]

    Template:Rfd (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Common now, it says "don't stubst", it says that admins will have edit summaries like "contest was:" but it's not true. When the discussion is over they often say "deleted per Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/that particular date", never "content was: #redirect something", someone really needs to delete the message about not stubsting, there is also another problem. Without stubsting it, it will ONLY list to Redirects for discussion of the current day, not the day it started being discussed. TheBlazikenMaster 17:35, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Declined - this needs to be discussed on the RFD talk page, not just done unilaterally. It is a major change in a process that potentially has other technical considerations (like bots and scripts). It needs to be proposed and discussed. --BigDT 23:54, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Zoophilia (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protect. This page is a high-profile target for vandalism. At a rough estimate, 90% or more of IP edits to this article are inserting some sort of vandalism, which tends (due to the nature of the page) to be extremely malicious. Zetawoof(ζ) 19:36, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Jason Mraz (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protection I find this process a bit confusing, so please forgive me if I format the request incorrectly. Page Jason Mraz is currently under a concert effort to vandalize it, encouraged by a Jason Mraz discussion board, to which was recently posted the following request by Mraz: "I am challenging each of you to help me create an exciting new life courtesy of the loopholes at Wikipedia.com… basically, I'm encouraging everyone to visit the Jason Mraz page at Wikipedia and make minor amendments until the entry sounds as absurd as humanly possible. Keep in mind you'll likely be notified at least once by the Wiki-Police for "vandalizing" Internet real estate, so be careful." I've attempted to restore credibility to the page, but I believe it needs protection from at least anonymous editing until this storm can blow over. Given the frequency of vandalism today alone, the need seems somewhat urgent. Moonriddengirl 17:05, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. And the formatting of your request was perfect, dear Moonriddengirl :) Phaedriel - 17:11, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    Human height (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protection Recurrent reversion of Chinese height, even though it is a perfectly acceptable source. This has been going on for weeks, no matter what Chinese source is cited. This is due to a white supremacist (Proof Talk:Human height) trying to remove the tall Asian heights because he believes, and is trying to promote, the stereotype that Asian people are short. He makes up illogical excuses of why the Chinese source is inaccurate. He says that he can read Chinese in the Talk page, but when a Chinese source is added, he says that the Chinese source is unreliable because he cannot read it. However, he did not remove the other foreign language source such as the French, Finnish, Swedish, etc. He is a sockpuppet, he has at least two very different IP addresses 220.253.68.210 and 124.168.39.104, and an account User:Gooogen (Proof: Talk:Human height and Special:Contributions/Gooogen). He is abusing the Talk:Human height talkpage like a troll and wasting everyone's time arguing why Asians are short. There are also other users (both IP and account) removing Chinese height because they also think that all Chinese sources are unverifiable even though the French, Finnish and Swedish sources are. They rely on outdated English sources (more than a decade) that mentions the height of Chinese, which are short. The outdated English sources are inaccurate because the Chinese has grown much taller due to nutrition, economic growth, etc... There are also no up-to-date English sources that mentions Chinese height. Only Chinese sources exist. This conflict has been going on for weeks, wasting everyone's time.
