Sandi Toksvig , OBE , (born Sandra Birgitte Toksvig in Copenhagen on May 3, 1958 ) is a British writer, comedian, radio and television presenter and politician (since 2013). She lives and works in England and writes her books in English.

Sandi Toksvig was born in Copenhagen on May 3, 1958. Her father is Claus Toksvig, who was a foreign correspondent for Danmarks Radio . Sandi Toksvig attended Mamoroneck High School in New York for six years before later studying at Girton College , Cambridge . Her first book was published in 1994 under the title "Tales from the Norse's mouth", it is a fictional story for children; there is no German publication. She regularly writes columns for the women's magazine Good Housekeeping and the Sunday Telegraph .

She began her career as a comedian in Cambridge when she wrote the Cambridge Footlights, the first show that only featured women. While studying at Girton College, she was also a member of the Cambridge University Light Entertainment Society, an acting group. At the moment she also plays for the group "The Comedy Store Players". Part of her television career is presenting children's series No. 73 , Saturday Starship , Get Fresh , Motormouth and Gilbert's Fridge . She was a regular guest on the humorous quiz program QI Quite Interesting , which she took over as presenter in October 2016. She also appeared on shows like Call My Bluff , Whose Line Is It Anyway? , Mock the Week and Have I Got News For You as well as in the first episode of Have I Got News For You in 1990.

Until June 2015, she hosted The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4 ; there she had replaced Simon Hoggart from September 2006. In 2007 she was also the main presenter on Excess Baggage . She is also a frequent guest on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and Giles Wemmbley Hogg Goes Off . For three years, until December 2005, she did a show on the London talk radio LBC 97.3 at noon on weekdays .

Her wife is the psychotherapist Debbie Toksvig.

Political career

Sandi Toksvig supported the Liberal Democrats . In 2003 she ran for the post of Chancellor of the University of Oxford , but was eliminated in the first ballot. She also supported a campaign against tuition fees, the so-called 'student fees'. In March 2015, she co-founded the Women's Equality Party .
