The ADC Theater is the home of the footlight

Cambridge University Footlights Dramatic Club , also commonly referred to simply as Footlights , is an amateur theater club in Cambridge , England founded in 1883 and run by students from Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University .

The club's fame increased in the 1960s as a nucleus of comedy and satire , it continues to produce the regular and very popular Smokers in the ADC Theater: a casual mix of skits and stand-up comedy . Footlights also regularly produces plays and sketch shows.

Famous members

The careers of many famous people in the entertainment world began in the footlights. There were also celebrities from other areas there. Known members include Douglas Adams , members of Monty Python ( Graham Chapman , John Cleese, and Eric Idle ), as well as Stephen Fry , Hugh Laurie , Emma Thompson , Miriam Margolyes, and more.
