The Hypothesis is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Kouvola that was formed in 2009. The group is also known under the simplified term Hypothesis .
history
The band was founded in winter 2009 and named by guitarist, keyboardist and singer Juuso Turkki. In the same year a first EP was recorded under the name Nightshade , which was followed in January 2011 by the two singles Weak Story and Shades to Escape . After Rolf Pilve was added as the new drummer, the third single was recorded with Scarface . After that the band could be seen on the Nummirock and the Qstock . She also won the Finnish Wacken Metal Battle qualifiers at the Qstock Festival. The group also performed with bands such as Swallow the Sun , Scar Symmetry , Wolfheart and Before the Dawn . In autumn 2012, the debut album Origin was recorded in Viitasaari with a new line-up . After almost four years, more new members joined the band. In 2016 a music video for the song Eye for an Eye was released before it went on tour with Wolfheart and Swallow the Sun. The album was released through Inverse Records in May of that year .

VR from metal-temple.com wrote in his review of Origin that the band is inspired by groups like Children of Bodom and Symmetry. Overall, the band is assigned to Melodic Death Metal, whereby the vocals are mostly guttural and only occasionally clear. You can also assign the group to modern metal and find fans in groups like Children of Bodom or Stratovarius . Gustavo Scuderi from theheadbangingmoose.wordpress.com also reviewed the album and described the music as "Modern Melodic Metal". Melodic Death Metal can also be heard, with the vocals consisting of growls and a little clear vocals. In the songs, the group also process a few influences from metalcore . In the compositions it becomes clear how much the members are fans of futuristic keyboard sounds. Occasionally the group also work progressive sounds into their songs. Mosh from moshville.co.uk said about the album that the term Melodic Death Metal was appropriate for it, because on the one hand the genre-typical keyboards are processed, on the other hand the vocals consist of the genre-typical growls. Overall, he compared the group to Soilwork , but more keyboards can be heard.
