(Laurence) Lar Corbett (born 16 March, 1981) is an Irish sportsman. He plays in the full-forward position on the Tipperary senior hurling team.

Early life

Lar Corbett (Byrnsie) was born in Thurles, County Tipperary in 1981. He was educated locally and from an early age he showed a great interest in the game of hurling.

Playing career

Club

Corbett plays his club hurling with the famous Thurles Sarsfields club. He has had much success with the club, winning a minor county championship medal in 1999 and a senior county championship title in 2005.

Inter-county

Surprisingly Corbett never played at minor level with Tipperary. This is unusual as most players nearly always play on either one team or the other before playing on the senior team. He made his senior inter-county debut against Clare in the 2000 South East Hurling League playing at corner-forward. 2001 began well for Corbett as he won a National Hurling League medal. He subsequently made his Munster Championship debut against Clare and was a key part of the team when Tipp won the provincial title for the first time in eight years. Corbett later played a key role when Tipp beat Galway to win the All-Ireland title.

The following few years proved difficult for Tipperary as the team failed to replicate the success of 2001. In 2006 Corbett replaced Ger O'Grady as captain after the latter was controversially dropped from the team.

Personal

Lar had the privilege of escorting local beauty Helena Lyons to her debs.
