The Self-Organized Time Division Multiple Access (STDMA) channel access method is based on an invention by Håkan Lans.
The system has been declared as the world standard for both marine- and aviation by the United Nations (IMO & ICAO) thus implementing a VHF Data Link.
IMO's Automatic Identification System is used for ships.
ICAO's 'VDL mode 4' is used by airplanes.
