Dress Code

As a parochial school, Bishop Kenny High School requires its students to wear a uniform. Girls' uniforms include a white button-down Oxford style collared shirt, either short or long sleeved, a pleated plaid skirt of maroon and grey, close-toed and backed shoes, either brown or black, and white socks, either knee or cuffed. The uniform may also include a school sweater, either maroon or grey with the BKHS emblem, and a minimum of jewlery. The skirt may not come above 4" above the knee, shirt tails must be tucked in, hair may not by dyed an unnatural color, and piercings must not be excessive or on the face. From the late Autumn until the early Spring, girls also have the options of either blue Dickies style pants and belts or tights, either grey, marroon, black or neutral. Boys' uniforms include a white button-down Oxford style collared shirt, blue Dickies style pants, socks, either blue, white or black, a belt matching the shoes, a tie with the BKHS emblem, and appropriate dress shoes, either brown or black. The uniform may also include a plain white undershirt and school sweater, either marroon or grey with the BKHS emblem. Shirt tails must be tucked in at all times, the top collar button of shirts must be buttoned and tied tight around the neck, faces cleanly shaven, hair not extending past the tops of ears or collars, and no visible piercings or tatoos.

As of Fall 2003, students also have the option of a grey or blue fleece pullover with the BKHS emblem, or a blue windbreaker with the BKHS emblem.
Popular amongst students' shoe choices are moccasins, ballet flats, and Dr. Martens, informally known as Doc Martens. Other popular trends amongst accessories are Vera Bradley purses, Jansport backpacks and belt buckles, which must not exceed the size of a PostIt Note.

As of 2006 Sunshine Apparel is the current company that provides uniforms for the school. The company has excusive rights to the Bishop Kenny uniforms, in that no other brands are allowed on campus. The school will seize all items that are not branded by Sunshine. A point to consider, even in extreme cold, students who do not have a Sunshine outterwear are not promitted to wear a alternative brand, and will be left to suffer as a result for not buying the schools " Offical Outfitter "

Traditions

Traditions at Bishop Kenny High School include "Fish Fry", a kind of hazing of freshmen. The "fry" occurs on the Friday of Homecoming week, and may include pranks such as throwing flour and drawing fish on freshman, known as "fish". Hazing is generally stopped before any damage can occur. Homecoming week also signals a week of accessorizing the uniform in a daily themed schedule, which may include "Geeky Day", "College Colors", and "Color Your Class". Class colors are voted on by student government, but typically remain: freshmen - yellow, sophomores - orange, juniors - blue, seniors - pink. Other traditions include intense rival games against The Bolles School, freshly baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies daily, Cheesey Night (a comedy show), and Yearbook Presents. Yearbook Presents is a ticket-only event held during the final week of senior classes which not only presents appearances by the drumline, awarding of superlatives, a teacher performed skit imitating the most popular seniors, and a slideshow of senior baby pictures, but also allows present students to pick up their copy of the yearbook up to 4 days early.
