Richie Rich (sometimes stylized Ri¢hie Ri¢h) is a 1994 live-action film based on the Harvey Comics comic book character Richie Rich, produced by Davis Entertainment, released by Warner Bros. Pictures, and starring Macaulay Culkin as the title character. Edward Herrmann, Michael McShane, Christine Ebersole, Jonathan Hyde, and John Larroquette served in supporting roles, while Claudia Schiffer and Ben Stein appeared in cameo roles.

In 1998, it was followed by a direct-to-video sequel, Richie Rich's Christmas Wish.

Plot

Richie Rich is the world's wealthiest kid, getting $100,000 a week and has anything money can buy, except friends (save his loyal butler Cadbury). But he thinks he might get his chance when he encounters a group of sandlot kids playing baseball. By being himself, he manages to win their friendship and loyalty. Meanwhile, evil businessman Lawrence Van Dough is conspiring to dispose of Richie and his family in order to break into the fabled Rich family vault. Now, it's up to Richie and his friends to stop Van Dough and save his parents.

Trivia

  • This would be Macaulay Culkin's final major movie appearance as a child actor.
  • In one scene Van Dough is seen watching North by Northwest. Later in the movie, a scene of North by Northwest is spoofed in the scene dealing with Mount Richmore.
  • In the scene dealing with Mount Richmore, when Mrs. Rich's stone face is destroyed she yells, "Oh my God! My Nose! I look like Michael Jackson!" Macaulay Culkin has been known to have a friendship with Jackson.
  • This would be Macaulay Culkin's last film for nearly a decade.
  • This movie cast tall actors in most of the main roles (including 6'4" John Larroquette and 5'10" Christine Ebersole) to make Culkin appear smaller and younger than his actual age of 14.
