Re: Phytopathology Articles

Great, thanks! I'll set those up as subpages soon so we can work on them.

I have an article written on the effects of climate change on plant disease. My dissertation is going to include a chapter on the effects of climate change on potato late blight most likely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Earlycj5 (talkcontribs) 21:12, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Phytopathology Articles

I see you're a plant pathology Ph.D. student as well. I've got four more articles that I wrote for Prelminary Exams or Qualifying Exams, whatever you call them on your side of the pond. Would you be interested in helping me get them cleaned up for Wikipedia? I saw what you did with the Epidemiology one. I wasn't sure how to handle the references in the article itself, thanks for fixing those for me. I've articles on climate change effects on plant disease, I just posted plant disease forecasting but didn't clean it up much, remote sensing applications to plant pathology, and GIS applications to plant pathology. Cheers! Earlycj5 (talk) 19:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello Million Moments, I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Have you looked at the tables on {{ArticleHistory}}? If so, give me an example of a page you need to update and we can work it through. WikiProject Good Articles Newsletter

Sorry about the delay. AWB has been having a few issues lately. Here is the august issue of the WikiProject Good Articles Newsletter! Dr. Cash (talk) 20:42, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for your comments - I've fixed the problems that you identified. You're right about my habit of using author names too much - I normally write papers, and I seem to have picked up some bad habits when it comes to Wikipedia. :) - Bilby (talk) 22:29, 21 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again both for reviewing the article and especially for helping clean it up. :) It's greatly appreciated. - Bilby (talk) 00:49, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Harry Murray

Hi Million Moments, I would just like to thank you for volunteering to review Harry Murray. I nominated the article for GA some time ago now, and was starting to wonder if anyone was going to be willing to assess it! Thanks heaps for volunteering to do so, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 12:22, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much Million Moments for reviewing the article, and passing it for GA! I really appreciate it! One question though:
The only improvement I can think of at this time is that an image of the Murray would be nice to be included in the article.
I'm not sure I know what you mean in this respect. Thank you once again, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 23:17, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! So that's what you ment! I was starting to think you ment the Murray River, and I was wondering why in the world would that need to be there! Lol. I have actually only ever seen one picture of the statue, and it was in the Army Newspaper; the reference I provided for the information on the statue. It is contained here, but I think copyright would come into conflict if I was to upload it onto Wikipedia. You are right, however; a picture of the statue would be a wonderful addition to the article. Cheers, Abraham, B.S. (talk) 06:04, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I addressed your comments to the article. Have fun on your vacation! RedThunder 18:30, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Chapman

Thanks for your help with Doug - jeez, I couldn't believe it. What was even more spooky is I haven't logged into Wikipedia for over a month but just happened to log in today. I am totally psychic. Fififolle (talk) 09:57, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

University of Nottingham Halls of Residence

I would like some clarification regarding your reversion of my edits to the above article, because the article referred to, although a blogger article, contains the correct legal statements and is of an original source. It is obvious that the information reffered to certainly is of relevance to this wiki article. I may also question your motives and impartiality as a former student of the University of Nottingham. Beatlesfan456 (talk) 16:39, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and you could do with brushing up your grammar also. Beatlesfan456 (talk) 18:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say that I concur with Million's position here. Blogs do not meet the guidelines at WP:RS, and so are not eligible as references. If you wish to question someone's neutrality on this, then I must ask quite why you are so insistent that this be included. -mattbuck (Talk) 20:10, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why, wouldn't you be? And in any case she needs to brush up her grammar before she considers issues such as referencing. Beatlesfan456 (talk) 21:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think the issue of what a reliable reference is and my grammar are related. I know I am bad at grammar and spelling, I told you I acknowledge this on my user page, so stop bringing it into the equation. Million_Moments (talk) 06:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Please can the discussion be brought to Talk:University of Nottingham Halls of Residence where it will be seen by more of the community which will hopefully address your issue of neutrality. Million_Moments (talk) 06:57, 4 September 2008 (UTC)"
Can you not do it yourself? Moreover I do think your ability to edit Wikipedia and your spelling and grammar are related. Although adequate spelling and grammar are apparently not required for a Biology Ph.D. If you revert other people's edits, then expect to be scrutinized yourself. Beatlesfan456 (talk) 20:12, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please refrain from personal attacks. -mattbuck (Talk) 11:32, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Images on USAD

First off, I just want to say thank you for spending the time to review the article. Second, I am a little confused as to why the rationale I provided for the logo image is insufficient. I based it off of the Microsoft article (which is an FA) which gives the rationale I assigned to the logo I created. Why does that one not also use a fair-use rationale? Regarding the derivative work of the gold medal, I assume that is because it is a picture of the Nebraska Academic Decathlon logo? If not, then I am a little lost. Just want to make it clear, I am fine using the fair use rationales, but I just didn't know that these two images required them. Once again, thanks for spending the time to review the article! :) - Yohhans talk 17:22, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks. My apologies for making you go through all that work. Hopefully the rest of the article does not give you any more headaches. - Yohhans talk 12:41, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I don't mind the wait. I'm just glad the article got reviewed within a month's time of being at GAN. Enjoy yourself at Oxford. I hear meetings can be oh so much fun. ;) Thanks again for your time and input! I hope the article was at least a little interesting to read. - Yohhans talk 21:29, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Novels is currently holding a roll call, which we hope to have annually. Your username is listed on the members list, but we are unsure as to which editors are still active within the project. Also feel free to join any of our task forces and take a look at the project's Job Centre to get involved!

Next month we will begin the coordinator election selection process. We hope to have more involvement and input this time around! More news will be forthcoming. Thanks, everyone! María (habla conmigo) 18:47, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Phyllody

"I love your picture of phyllody on cornflower, which I put on the phytoplasma article as well. How did you know which phytoplasma disease it had?" Hi MM -- I'm so glad you liked my photo! I especially like how the "normal" coneflowers are visible in the background. Your praise means a lot since I see you're a biologist.  :) I think I just lucked out on finding aster yellows as the disease. That and I'm a good Google User.  :) It seems fairly common on Echinacea and the description at the University of MN Extension Service talks about green, distorted, erect, stunted flowers. I was sad to read I had to destroy the infected plants as the disease can spread. I thought they were rather cool looking -- sort of like alien plants. I did dry two of the really neat looking ones and took a lot of photos. Thanks for adding the photo to the phytoplasma article, MM. Feel free to correct "aster yellows" if it turns out I guessed the wrong disease. ~ Alicia aka Estreya (talk) 14:12, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From the Outreach Department

On the advice of Coordinator Maria, the newsletter is now only distributed to active listed members of the Novels Project. A new section has started with this issue called 'In Focus', which will feature various members and task forces each month.

Members are requested to post any news items to the Tip Line (found above) to make sure it reaches the next newsletter before closing date, which is always the last day of the preceding month. Any task force news should be added by the coordinator of that task force. Having news items helps inform members of what is happening at the various task forces and so can be a way of encouraging more membership and participation.

Editors are required to assist with the newsletter for Task Force News and Peer Reviews & Assessments News, which involves the gathering of news items from the main project and the various task forces. These positions may be applied for at the Job Centre.
