1869 French legislative election

The 1869 general election elected the fourth legislature of the French Second Empire. The first round was held on May 23, the second round on June 6. These elections resulted in a victory for the liberal opposition to the authoritarian French Second Empire.

Nationwide, the regime won only 57% of the vote, and in Paris, the opposition parties (mostly Republicans) won a swooping 75% of the vote. However, in the countryside, the regime won large majorities.
