Craigtoun Miniature Railway

The Craigtoun Miniature Railway is a 15 gauge railway operating on a circular track around part of the Craigtoun Country Park in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland.

The gauge employed is usually associated with more extensive railway operations, including public transport services on railways such as the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway in Kent, England. However, the Craigtoun Miniature Railway operates on a limited circuit of approximately 400 yards (366 m), and purely as an attraction for families enjoying a day out in the corporation-owned public park.

The rolling stock, all of which carries a black (with white lining-out) livery, consists of a series of open 'toast-rack' style passenger carriages, with motive power provided by a Severn Lamb built steam-outline diesel locomotive, designed to resemble a North American type steam locomotive of the Rio Grande Railroad. In fact the miniature railway itself takes its name from this of locomotive and is called the Rio Grande.

The Rio Grande at Craigtoun Park has been running for over thirty years and was still going strong at the end of the 2008 summer season which ended in late September however it has been prone to a few breakdowns along the way.
