The Oncopodidae are a family of harvestmen within the suborder Laniatores.

Name

The name of the type genus is a combination of Ancient Greek onkos "swelling" and podos "leg".[1]

Description

Oncopodidae range in body size from about two to almost eleven millimeters. The legs are relatively short and stout. Most species are amber colored with some dark brown patterns. A few undescribed Gnomulus species are orange.[1]

Distribution

This family is known from Southeast Asia from Indonesia, almost reaching New Guinea on Waigeo, up north into the Himalayan region.[1]

Relationships

Oncopodidae are probably the sister group to all other Grassatores.[1]
