UMF Tindastóll is an Icelandic football club founded in 1907 and based in Sauðárkrókur. They are currently playing in 1. deild karla, Icelandic's second tier in football. Their most famous player to come out of Tindastol rank is former Icelandic national and who played also for VfB Stuttgart, Hertha BSC and Beşiktaş J.K., Eyjólfur Sverrisson. With Tindastoll plays the captain of the Icelandic Davis Cup team, Arnar Sigurdsson

History

2012 Season

Tindastóll was predicted by most pundits to finish the 2012 season in last place. The team was playing in the 1st Division for the first time since 2000 and people and fans in the town were excited for the season. The team goalkeeper for the past 13 years had retired and the team captain had also retired so a lot of burden had been put on the shoulders of the young players in the team. Tindastoll signed four English players before the season and they made a big impact on the team. Tindastoll's first victory of the season came in the end of May when they beat BI/Bolungarvík 5-2, where Theo Furness scored a hat-trick. June delivered the team five points and in a very close league the team was around mid table when July started. The team started July well and won the first two games of the month but lost the next two. The team brought two players to the team in mid-July Steven Beattie| came to the team from Puerto Rico Islanders and Colin Helmrich came from Springfield Diamaze in the PDL Division. The team finished the season in the 8th place with 27 points and surprised a lot of people with how they played their game. Good football was played, the team scored a lot of goals and also conceded a lot. Tindastoll played one of the most exciting games in the league. Good attacking football and a great team spirit delivered the team 27 points. The team leading goalscorer was Ben Everson, who scored seven goals in ten matches. Atli Arnarson made most appearances for the club. He played in all of the 22 matches and scored three goals.

2011 Season

In the beginning of the 2011 season Tindastóll and Hvöt from Blönduós merged into one team. These teams are located in half an hour drive from each other. Over the years those two teams has been rivals for some years so it came of some surprise to people in both towns that these teams merged into one. Tindastóll/Hvöt was in most part built on players from Tindastóll but Hvöt added some young and promising players to the team. At the end of the season Tindastóll/Hvöt surprised everyone and became the champions of 2. deild karla. After the season the co-operation between those two teams came to an end.

Tindastóll got promoted to the 1. deild karla after dramatic season in the 2. deild karla. Tindastóll/Hvöt as it was called that season lost their first three games of the season and fired their coach Sigurður Halldórsson. In his replacement was appointed his son and player at Tindastóll Halldór Jón Sigurðsson. After 11 games Tindastóll/Hvöt was in 6th place. Then the team went on a winning streak and after 17.games the team was in 2nd place. When two games where remaining of the season Tindastóll/Hvöt lead the league by two points. They went on playing agains KF[disambiguation needed] in Ólafsfjörður. It was a tough battle that Tindastóll/Hvöt lost and at the same time Höttur who was in the second place got into the first place and only one game left. In the final game Tindastóll/Hvöt won Völsungur 4-2 and Höttur drew 1-1 with KF. Tindastóll/Hvöt finished the season with 42.points and Höttur 41.points. That meant Tindastóll where the champions of 2. deild karla for the first time since 1999.

Leading goalscorer of Tindastóll/Hvöt that season was Arnar Sigurðsson with 13 goals a and Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson came second with 9. goals. Most capped players of the season where the goalkeeper Gísli Eyland Sveinsson and midfielder Atli Arnarson both with 21 games in the league.

2010 Season

Tindastóll played the season in the 3. deild karla. Before the season Tindastóll appointed Head coach Sigurður Halldórsson to manage the team. Sigurður was the Head Coach of Tindastóll for two seasons in 1999 and 2000. The team was mostly built on home grown players and the team captain was Bjarki Már Árnason a veteran in the Tindastól defence. 3. deild karla is split into four groups and Tindastóll was in group C. The group was fairly easy for the Tindastóll team. They won 10 games and lost 2. Tindastóll went into the play-offs and in the first round the team played Magni[disambiguation needed] from Grenivík and won 3-2 on aggregate. In the semi-finals Tindastóll played against Árborg and won 4-3 on aggregate. With that win Tindastóll was guaranteed a place in the 2. deild karla. In the finals Tindastóll played Dalvík/Reynir and won 1-0 and the winning goal was scored by their best player that season Arnar Sigurðsson. Most capped player that season was goalkeeper Arnar Magnús Róbertsson and Tindastóll most versatile player Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson both with 17. games. The leading goalscorer was Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson with 11 goals.

2009 Season

Tindastóll played in 2.deild karla. The team appointed former Einherji and Breiðablik player Sævar Pétursson as their Head Coach. Expectations where high in Sauðárkrókur before the season. Like most years the team was mainly built on players from Sauðárkrókur. The season started well for the team but soon the luck was not in their team anymore. The team main problem that season was that they didn´t have a goalscorer. Tindastóll never suffered a big defeat but the team lost many games in the last minutes of the games and in the end the team got relegated. Tindastóll scored fewest goals in the league. Left-back Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson was the team leading goalscorer with 5 goals. Veteran Kristmar Geir Björnsson scored 4 goals along with defender Bjarki Már Árnason and defender Stefán Arnar Ómarsson had 3 goals. Most capped player that season was goalkeeper Gísli Eyland Sveinsson.

2008 Season

The Head Coach for the season was Róbert J. Haraldsson. Róbert´s philosophy in football was playing attacking football and during this season the team played very good football. The team was like always built around home grown players. The team added a 41 year old Serbian player to the squad named Saso Durasovic and they also got a player from Leiknir R. named Kristján Páll Jónsson. The team never struggled that season and was always around mid-table. The team finished in the 6th place out of 12 teams. This was the first season in Icelandic football that 12 teams where in top three leagues. Before that time Icelandic leagues had 10 teams in top three leagues. The most capped player of the season was the goalkeeper Gísli Eyland Sveinsson with 22. games. The leading goalscorer was the playing/coach Róbert J. Haraldsson with 5.goals. Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson & Halldór Jón Sigurðsson came second with 4.goals. The team captain was Gísli Eyland Sveinsson

2007 Season

UMF Tindastóll was celabrating it 100th anniversary. The team played in yellow kit with black stipes to celabrate the team anniversary. The team played in exactly the same kit when they first played football. This season the team appointed Róbert J. Haraldsson as their head coach. The year before Róbert J. Haraldsson was the head coach of Hvöt. KSÍ the Icelandic football federation decided that three highest divisions in Iceland should have 12 teams in the league, instead of 10. That meant 5 teams from the 3. deild karla would be promoted this year. Tindastóll played in 3. deild karla and people in town were optimistic that the team would get promoted this year. In the group stage Tindastóll finished second, behind Hvöt. In the play-offs Tindastóll played Víðir in last 8. The team lost the home game 2-4 and the away game 2-1. But because 5 teams where promoted all of the teams that lost in the first round played for one final spot. Tindastóll played against Leiknir Fáskrúðsfjörður and beat the team 4-3 on aggregate. In the final game for the last place in 2. deild karla Tindastóll played against BÍ/Bolungarvík and won 4-2 on aggregate. The most capped players in the season where Bjarki Már Árnason, Albert Sölvi Óskarsson & Ingvi Hrannar Ómarsson all with 20 games. Tindastóll top goalscorer that season was Ebbe Nygaard with 10.goals in 10 matches. The team captain was Gísli Eyland Sveinsson and Bjarki Már Árnason.

2006 Season

Tindastóll played in 3. deild karla this year. The team strengthened the squad with three Danish players. But the team disappointed everybody this year. They didn´t even qualify for the play-offs. The team finished 3rd in the group stages. Most capped players in the league this season was Albert S. Óskarsson, Haukur Skúlason, Konny Thorleifsson & Marc E. Christiansen all with 13.games. Top goalscorer was Björn I. Óskarsson and Ebbe Nygaard both with 7.goals. The team captin was Gísli Eyland Sveinsson.

2005 Season

Tindastóll played in 2.deild karla in the year 2005. The team played mostly on local players but strengthen the squad with one Serbian player named Mladen Ilic. Tindastóll struggled this year. They did well against teams in the top half of the table but lost points to the teams in the lower half. That was costly and the team got relegated as they finished second from bottom. The team main problem was in the attacking half og the pitch as they only scored 16. goals in 18.games. The team most capped players that season was goalkeeper Gísli Eyland Sveinsson and Haukur Skúlason with 18. games. Leading goalscorer was Mladen Ilic with 4.goals.

2004 Season

Tindastóll played in 2.deild karla in the year 2004. The team struggled most of the season and when three games were left the situation looked bad. But the team showed character in the last three games and got seven points out of nine and avoided relegation. Tindastóll average age this year was 22.8. Oldest player was Aleksander Petrovic a 38 year old midfield player. The youngest player was 16 year old Conrad Thorleifsson. The team finished 7th in the league. Tindastóll most capped player that season was goalkepper Gísli Eyland Sveinsson with 18.games. Leading goalscorer was Kristmar Geir Björnsson with 8.goals and Elías Ingi Árnason came second with 7.goals.

Stadium

Sauðárkróksvöllur is a football stadium in Sauðárkrókur, Iceland.

Sauðárkróksvöllur has a standing spectator capacity of about 2,500, but no permanent seating. It was built with a combination of public and private funding for the Icelandic Games held in the summer of 2004. The stadium was also used for the 2004 and 2009 youth games, the 2006 and 2007 Icelandic Athletic championships and various other large or small events. Sauðárkróksvöllur is used by the local sports club, UMF Tindastóll, which helps maintain the pitch with the aid of volunteers.

1912

Tindastóll was founded in 1907 and the club mostly participated in Track & Field. But in 1912, Tindastóll started participating in football. Stefán Vagnsson and Axel Kristjánsson where the driving force behind football participation in the town.
