(1709) Ukraina is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on August 16, 1925 by the Russian astronomer Grigori Abramowitsch Schain at the Crimean Observatory in Simejis ( IAU code 094).

The asteroid is named after the then Soviet Republic of Ukraine .
