(2040) Chalonge is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on April 19, 1974 by the Swiss astronomer Paul Wild from the Zimmerwald Observatory at the University of Bern .

The asteroid is named after the French astronomer and astrophysicist Daniel Chalonge .
