(4847) Amenhotep is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey .

The asteroid is named after the Egyptian pharaoh Amenhotep IV , who is also known as Akhenaten .
