The Álvaro Obregón dam (Spanish Presa Álvaro Obregón, also called Presa del Oviachic ) is a large dam in Mexico in the southwest of Sonora . The Río Yaqui is dammed , but the Mextiquic and the Fuerte are also mentioned in other sources . The dam is used to irrigate an area of 2720 km², generate electricity from hydropower and compensate for low water levels.

The barrier structure is a 90 m high dam . The dam is about 56 km north of the city of Ciudad Obregón . It is the lowest of three dams in the Yaqui Valley. The collected water comes from the mountains on the border of the states of Sonora and Chihuahua .
