Ángeles Caso (born July 16, 1959 in Gijón , Spain ) is a Spanish writer, journalist and translator.

Life

Ángeles Caso was born in 1959 into a family whose concern for culture has shaped her from childhood. Her father, José Miguel Caso González, was a professor in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oviedo . He had specialized in the 18th century and was soon to be appointed rector of the university.

Caso studied foreign languages ​​(she speaks English , French , Italian and Portuguese ), music and dance.

She graduated in geography and history ; she had specialized in art history . But at this time she made her first experiences in the media; first in daily newspapers, then on radio and television. Between 1985 and 1987 she hosted the television news on TVE and in 1987 the talk show La Tarde .

She worked in various cultural institutions such as the Fundación Príncipe de Asturias and the Instituto Feijoo at the University of Oviedo , which deals with the study of the 18th century. In addition, she has worked for various media such as the Televisión Española , Cadena SER , the Radio Nacional de España and various newspapers and magazines. At the age of 35 Caso left journalism - but without turning her back entirely - and began her career as a writer.

Awards

In 1994 she was nominated for the Premio Planeta Literature Prize for El peso de las sombras . In 2000 she won the Premio Fernando Lara de Novela for her novel Un largo silencio , and in 2009 the Premio Planeta for Contra el viento .

Works

In addition to her narrative work, Ángeles Caso writes historical essays. In this, she places particular emphasis on the consideration of the modern age and the understanding of women in the longitudinal section of history. She also wrote the screenplay for Gerardo Vera's film Deseo  (2002).
