Ásdís Thoroddsen

Ásdís Thoroddsen (born February 26, 1959 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic director, producer and writer. She runs the production company Gjóla.

Life

First she was a camera assistant in the NDR television film The Paradise Found, based on the novel by Halldór Laxness .

After working for Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV), Iceland's public service broadcaster, from 1979 to 1981 , she studied drama at the University of Gothenburg .

In 1983 she played the leading role in the film Skilaboð til Söndru by Kristín Pálsdóttir . In the same year she began her studies at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb).

In 1992, her film Ingalo in the Green Sea took part in the Semaine de la critique competition, which took place parallel to the Cannes International Film Festival . Ingalo in the green sea is about a rebellious young woman and her brothers in the rough seafaring life of Iceland. The film won the main prize at the film festival Festival du cinéma nordique de Rouen and Sólveig Arnarsdóttir received the prize for best leading actress. The film was then nominated in 1993 for the New Films / New Directors film festival organized by the Museum of Modern Art and Lincoln Center .

Ásdís Thoroddsen writes scripts for film, radio and stage. She directed several radio plays and the radio play series Ástand, which she wrote and which she also directed, was nominated for Prix ​​Europa .

In September 2016 the publisher Bókaútgáfan Sæmundur published her first book Utan þjónustusvæðis krónika .
