Ázere is a locality and former municipality in Portugal .
history
The place was created in the course of the settlement policy after the Reconquista . In 1123 it was already noted as a village that became the seat of a district under Queen Teresia, i.e. before the independence of Portugal in 1140.
The city rights of Ázeres were renewed in the administrative reforms under King Manuel in the 16th century. The district Ázere consisted of two parishes until 1666 the municipality Covelo was spun off, and Ázere remained as the sole district municipality.
After the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg in 1834, various administrative reforms were carried out in Portugal, in the course of which in 1836 the Ázere district was finally dissolved.
With the territorial reform of 2013, the independent municipalities Ázere and Covelo were dissolved and merged into a new municipality.
