Äl Jawala [ æl dʒa'væla ], from Arabic, meaning "the travelers", "the wanderers", "traveling people", is a Freiburg quintet whose music style ranges between Balkan soul, dance beat and modern klezmer .

history

Äl Jawala began their career in 2000 as a quartet (still without bass). In the first few years they toured mainly as street musicians. With the Bucovina Club of Balkan pop -DJ Shantel they gave concerts in 2005 and entered 2007 with the No Smoking Orchestra of Emir Kusturica on.

The group toured with numerous concerts on streets and festivals through Central and Eastern Europe (Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria to Bulgaria), for example played in 2005 and 2006 at the Stufstockfestival in Vama Veche in Romania.

Äl Jawala was awarded the City of Emmendingen's Culture Prize and the Jury Prize and Audience Prize at the Creole Festival for World Music.
