Änne Bäumer-Schleinkofer (* 1957 ) is a biology historian . She was a professor for the history of natural sciences at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .

Career

Bäumer studied classical philology and mathematics in Mainz and Vienna and did her doctorate in 1981 at the University of Mainz with a thesis on Seneca, after which she worked for a year as a research assistant at the German Copernicus Research Center. From 1982 to 1985 she studied biology with a scholarship from the Volkswagenwerk Foundation and received her doctorate in 1985 with a thesis on the development of the chicken in the egg . From 1986 to 1987 she was a research assistant at Fritz Krafft in the mathematics department, where she continued to work on the Copernikus edition , and in 1987 she was appointed university assistant for the history of natural sciences. In 1991 she obtained her habilitation in the history of natural sciences and in 1992 was appointed professor at the University of Mainz.

Her research focus was initially in the area of the history of the natural sciences, here in the area of embryology, biology and her school lessons at the time of National Socialism and the history of the observation of nature.

After her lectureship ended, she became chairwoman of the Deutsche Hildegard von Bingen Society, which was founded at the end of 1998 . In 1999 she repeatedly turned to the Auxiliary Bishop Franziskus Eisenbach from Mainz , whom she visited regularly until January 2000. Her urgent wish to get a job in the diocese service at a Hildegard von Bingen research institute at the University of Mainz was supported by Eisenbach. But the Bishop of Mainz, Karl Lehmann , clearly rejected the establishment of the institute.

In September 2000, Eisenbach was accused by Bäumer and her husband, the mathematics professor Gerhard Schleinkofer, of having unlawfully carried out a major exorcism and sexual acts on her. She reported him for assault and sexual abuse as part of a pastoral care relationship. The Mainz diocese leadership denied the exorcism, but admitted "healing and liberation prayers". In April 2001, the Mainz public prosecutor closed the proceedings against Eisenbach for lack of suspicion. An enforcement action brought by the plaintiff at the Higher Regional Court of Koblenz was dismissed in November 2001. Bäumer also brought lawsuits against the Vatican (for violating the secrecy of confession and the celibacy law ); Even there, after a preliminary investigation, no criminal case against Eisenbach was opened. Bäumer processed her experiences in a book in which she also criticized the network of clerics , "who supposedly have nothing else in mind than helping people in distress and crises of faith."
