Doctors Orchestra Hanover

The Hannover Doctors Orchestra (ÄOH) is a symphony orchestra with its main venue in Hannover , which gives concerts twice a year as a recognized amateur orchestra with its musicians , who mainly play medical professionals .

history

The doctors' orchestra was originally formed as a jazz orchestra in the post-war period in 1953 in order to cultivate the American jazz that was previously criticized during the Nazi era . The ensemble soon changed into a chamber orchestra with initially 27 members, mostly strings .

Werner Leupold (1909–1994), who was mostly named with his doctorate, was the first orchestra conductor in 1954. Under Leupold's direction, the first concert of the ensemble, which now appears as a chamber orchestra, was performed in the (then) house of the Medical Association on June 25, 1955 .
