Tower of the fortress of Çandarlı

Çandarlı is a village and was the capital of a Bucak in the district of Dikili in the Turkish province of Izmir . The place had 4809 inhabitants in 2010. Until 2014 it had the status of a Belediye . Then it was all again . Çandarlı is located on a headland on the north bank of the Bay of Çandarlı (Çandarlı Körfezi) on the Aegean coast north of İzmir , across from Aliağa . It is the site of the ancient Pitane . Since no official excavations have yet been carried out there, apart from the remains of the city wall, nothing of ancient buildings can be seen. There is a Genoese fort with five towers, probably from the 14th century, which was restored in 1955 and, according to local information, is often used as a film set . Çandarlı is a popular seaside resort.

A type of red pottery that was produced at Çandarlı between the Augustan period and the early 4th century and found in Pitane, among others, is known as Çandarlı ware.
