Jörg Schäfer
Jörg Schäfer (born April 25, 1926 in Stuttgart ) is a German classical archaeologist .
Schäfer attended the Eberhard-Ludwigs-Gymnasium Stuttgart . After his military service from 1944 to 1945 he studied classical archeology, ancient history , Greek and Latin at the University of Tübingen from the 1948 summer semester . On February 8, 1955 Shepherd was when Bernhard Schweitzer with the dissertation studies on prehistoric ceramics relief doctorate . In 1955/1956 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . In 1957 he became an employee of the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute under a contract for work . From November 1961 to July 1963 he was a research assistant at the Institute of Archeology of the University of Heidelberg , where he working on the 17 July 1963 Hellenistic pottery from Pergamon habilitation was. From 1963 to 1968 he was a consultant at the Athens Department of the German Archaeological Institute. On April 1, 1968 he became a dietician at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Heidelberg, from March 3, 1972 he was an adjunct professor, from March 18, 1975 scientific adviser and professor, from January 1, 1978 until he retired on September 30, 1990 C-3 Professor.
Apart from classical archeology, Schäfer also deals with the translation of the modern Greek poet Konstantinos Kavafis . He is a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and a corresponding member of the Austrian Archaeological Institute as well as an honorary member of the Athens Archaeological Society . The University of Athens awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2003.
