The École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon ( ENSBA Lyon for short ; German  State University of Fine Arts Lyon ) is a university for fine arts in Lyon approved by the French minister of culture .

history

Founded in 1756 by Father Lacroix-Laval and a group of art lovers, the free drawing school became the Royal School of Graphics and Geometry in 1780 on the basis of royal permission to establish academies in the provinces . It is one of the first art schools in France outside of Paris. In 1807, by decree of Napoleon Bonaparte , it was housed on the Place des Terreaux in the Palais Saint-Pierre, where the Museum of Fine Arts had been set up six years earlier . From 1936 she used the premises of the textile school before moving to a former barracks at 10 Rue Neyret ( Pentes de la Croix-Rousse ) in 1948 , which was replaced by a new building in the same location in 1960. In 2007, the ENSBA found a new home in the 1st arrondissement on the banks of the Saône in the renovated buildings of the Les Subsistances area on Quai Saint-Vincent.
