Édouard Jaguer (born August 8, 1924 in Paris ; † May 9, 2006 ibid) was a French writer, illustrator and art critic.

Live and act

According to his own admission, Jaguer discovered Surrealism for himself at the age of 13 (or 14) when he tried his hand at abstract art . His first literary attempts date back to 1939 and four years later he made his debut as a writer when his first poems were published in the magazine La main à plume .

In the last years of the war Jaguer u. a. became acquainted with the writer Yves Bonnefoy and tried to work with him shortly after the liberation of Paris . After the liberation , there was collaboration in the editorial team of the magazine La révolution la nuit (Paris), as well as with Christian Dotremont for the magazine Deux Sœurs (Brussels).

When the artists' association CoBrA was formed in 1948 , Jaguer was appointed head of the magazine of the same name, which was founded at the same time. In 1951 he resigned from this office. In 1949 he was one of the founders of Rixes magazine, along with Max Clara-Serou and Jaroslaw Serpan .

Through the acquaintance of André Breton , Jaguer made the acquaintance of Robert Benayoun in the late 1950s . He immediately rejected France's colonial policy and signed the 121st manifesto in September 1960 .

On May 9, 2006, Édouard Jaguer died in Paris and found his final resting place in the Père Lachaise cemetery (Division 22).
