Émile Témime

Émile Témime (born October 2, 1926 in Bayonne , † November 18, 2008 in Marseille ) was a French historian and author . The focus of his work was on the history of the Mediterranean , especially Spain and the city of Marseille, as well as migration issues .

Témime was the son of a Jewish - Kabyle father and a Basque mother, who came from a leading Jewish families in the city of Bayonne. From 1968 Témime was professor at the Université de Provence , later directeur d'études at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS). After his retirement (1986) he began in 1992 together with Pierre Milza to publish a 25-volume history of immigration to France under the title Français d'ailleurs, peuple d'ici (“French from elsewhere, people from here”), which he continued until shortly worked before his death.
