The Ólafsfjörður is a fjord in the northeast of Iceland .
It is located west of Eyjafjörður on the Tröllaskagi peninsula . To the west is the Héðinsfjörður . The Ólafsfjörður is about 3 km wide and extends 4.5 km into the country. Two 500 and 800 m wide headlands in the fjord separate the lake Ólafsfjarðarvatn from the open sea. The lake extends another 3 km into the country.
On the east bank, the Ólafsfjarðarvegur enters the fjord through the 3.4 km long Múlagöng tunnel . The fishing village of Ólafsfjörður with its 787 inhabitants is located on the eastern headland (as of January 1, 2019). Here the road turns south and leads past Ólafsfjarðarvatn over Lágheiði . Further to the west the Ólafsfjarðarvegur becomes Siglufjarðarvegur . On a 14 m long bridge, the road crosses the Ólafsfjarðará at its mouth and continues west through the Héðinsfjarðargöng .
