In 1969, Vural Öger founded the Istanbul travel agency in Hamburg and in the same year chartered the first aircraft that flew compatriots living in Germany home. Vural Öger was the first to offer direct flights from Hamburg to Turkey. After a great initial success, he founded the flight operator Öger Türk Tur in 1972 . In 1982, air travel expanded from a business model based purely on the ethnicity of the customers.

Öger Tours GmbH

Öger Tours GmbH was founded on May 26, 1986 . Öger Tours was a pioneer for package tours from Germany to Turkey. In addition to Turkey, other destinations such as Egypt, Tunisia, the Dominican Republic and Cuba were also offered from 1990. In 1994 the Öger Group took over the value-for- money brand att Touristik . In 1996, the inbound agency Holiday Plan was founded and the resort operator Majesty Hotels was taken over - both of which were integrated into the group from then on. In 1996, the company hit the headlines when 189 people were killed in the crash of Birgenair flight 301 off the Dominican Republic - including guests from Öger Tours.

In 2007 the group's turnover was 722 million euros. In October 2008, Öger Tours signed a contract with the NRC group of Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedew , in which NRC's acquisition of 76 percent of Öger Tours was agreed, subject to approval by the antitrust authorities. However, Lebedev did not pay, so the contract did not materialize. According to his own statement, Öger was not looking for a new buyer for his company.

In 2009 more than 400,000 passengers were carried with a turnover of 256 million euros.

On July 12, 2010 it was announced that Vural Öger would sell Öger Tours GmbH to the Thomas Cook Group , that he and his daughter Nina Öger would step down as managing directors of Öger Tours with the takeover and that Vural Öger would join the supervisory board of Thomas Cook Germany. He resigned from his position on the Supervisory Board in August 2013 after Thomas Cook relocated the incoming business.

Bucher Reisen & Öger Tours GmbH

On July 6, 2018, BUCHER REISEN GmbH was merged with the tour operator Öger Tours GmbH , which also belongs to the Thomas Cook Group . Together they form Bucher Reisen & Öger Tours GmbH .

On September 23, 2019, the sale of travel was stopped due to the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook.

In the course of the compulsory liquidation of the parent company Thomas Cook , Thomas Cook GmbH, Thomas Cook Touristik GmbH and Bucher Reisen & Öger Tours GmbH filed for insolvency at the responsible district court in Bad Homburg on September 25, 2019; the insolvency proceedings were opened on November 27, 2019 .
