Öja is an island in the Stockholm archipelago . It is located south of Torö in Nynäshamn commune . Landsort is the name of the southern tip of the island with the main settlement of the island and the lighthouse.

The island is long and narrow: it is about 560 meters wide and 4.2 kilometers long, with an area of about 2.2 km². In the north of the island there is a forest area, in the south is the place Landsort . Landsorts fyr , the oldest still in use lighthouse in Sweden, is located at the southern tip . It was commissioned and built by the Dutch merchant Johan van der Hagen in 1658. A ship class of the Swedish Navy is named after the beacon.

The Swedish sea rescue service Sjöräddningssällskapet SSRS always has at least one boat stationed in the port of Landsort. Most of the islanders traditionally worked as pilots for merchant shipping in the waters off Nynäshamn and Stockholm .

In Bredmar just north of Landsort is the country local fågelstation ( Ornithological Landsort ). Bird ringing began on the island as early as the 1970s, but the association that runs the station today wasn't founded until 1988.
