Ölands Djur & Nöjespark ( German : Ölands Zoo and Amusement Park ) is an amusement park on the Swedish island of Öland in the Baltic Sea .

location

The park is located about one kilometer north of Färjestaden in the village of Möllstorp near the Ölandsbron , which connects the island with the Swedish mainland and the Kalmar located there .

investment

The amusement park, which is one of the five largest in Sweden , is divided into three theme parks. In addition to a classic zoo, there is an amusement park with rides. A fun pool is also connected to this. There is also another, more modern water park called Pirat Island . Visitors can choose between the three parks or combine them.

history

Pirate Island fun pool

After the opening of the Öland Bridge, the park's founder, Boris Bravin , bought an abandoned farm in Möllstorp north of Färjestaden. Öland's largest oak forest also belonged to the acquired property of around 30,000 m².

In 1974 the zoo first opened as Ölands Djurpark ( German : Ölands Tierpark ). The facility was created with the support of the architect Sören Rasmussen . More than 8,000 visitors came on the opening day.

According to the will of its founder, the park should grow steadily. The philosophy is that there should be important news about an expansion every year.

In the years 1976/77, the Pajalakvarnen, one of the most striking buildings to date, was built. It is a mill originally in Lapland from 1758, in which oxen drove the grinding stones. It was rebuilt in the park and now houses the Kvarnstugan restaurant .

In the following time, the zoo was expanded. The foundation stone for the amusement park was then laid with a small children's carousel . In 1981 the big roller coaster was bought by Gröna Lund from Stockholm .

In 1987, long before Jurassic Park , a dinosaur park was created with life-size replicas of dinosaurs.

The amusement park was completed between 1992 and 1995. In several steps, the water park was Vattenland (dt. Wasserland ). In 1993, 300,000 visitors were counted. During this period the name of the facility was also changed to Öland's Djur-och Nöjespark , as the zoo was no longer the only dominant element.

In 2000 there was a change in the ownership structure. The founder sold the park to the property of Barbo Hajj and her son Richard Berglund standing Nöjesfältet caravels AB .

A large number of other innovations then followed. In 2001 a crocodile enclosure was built , and in 2002 the chimpanzee house. In 2003 two carousels were exchanged and a new toilet facility was built. In addition, neighboring plots were acquired to give the park an opportunity to grow.

A new, spacious outdoor area for animals from the African savannah was built in 2004. At the same time, 55 holiday homes, a restaurant and service buildings were built. A souvenir boutique was built in the entrance area in 2005 and all animal enclosures were modernized. In 2007 the new Pirat Island water park was opened on 15,000 m² .
