Färjestaden is a village ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Kalmar län and the historic province of Öland . It is part of the municipality of Mörbylånga and is the largest town on the Baltic island of Öland.
Färjestaden is known for the zoo and amusement park Ölands Djur & Nöjespark . Other tourist destinations are the miniature golf course , the old harbor and the Ölands Köpstad shopping center (Öland's shopping town), where the ICA supermarket is the largest shop . Färjestaden Church is in Färjestaden . To the east is the Bjönhovda kvarnar windmill . It is known as the Mill King because it is the largest of the post mills typical of Öland.
The most important ferry connection between mainland Sweden and the island of Öland started from Färjestaden until the early 1970s. After the Ölandsbron was built, the ferry service was stopped.
