Algutsrum is for community Mörbylånga belonging place ( tätort ) on the Swedish Baltic island of Öland .
Algutsrum is located a little northeast of Färjestaden not far from the Öland Bridge, which connects Öland with the mainland, and has 862 inhabitants (2015).
Algutsrum is known for its historic market , whose stalls date back to the 18th century. To the west of the market is the church of Algutsrum, which basically dates back to the 12th century . To the east of the village is the Jordtorpsåsen nature reserve . There are three of the typical Öland windmills in the village and its surroundings . A 150-meter-high transmission mast for radio and television can be seen from afar near Algutsrum.
Thanks to its proximity to the Öland Bridge and thus to the Swedish mainland, there are a number of small and medium-sized companies in Algutsrum. Agriculture, however, is also an important industry.
Personalities
Algutsrum was the home of Lasses Birgitta , who was the first Swedish woman to be executed for witchcraft in 1550 . The Swedish politician Fredrik Pettersson , who was born in 1828 and died in the village on November 24, 1908 , also came from the Algutsrum area . The Swedish football player Jonas Fried was born in Algutsrum on March 30, 1985 .
The Gråborg , which today exists only as a ruin of the largest enclosed prehistoric mounting lies east of Algutsrum.
