The 47th season of the Women Handball League Austria (WHA) began on September 9, 2017.

12 teams are represented in the highest Austrian women's league.

In the basic round , the twelve teams play a double round tournament . The first two teams reach the WHA final , which is played in two games in the European Cup mode.

Hypo NÖ suffered a 28:29 defeat at HIB Handball Graz in the WHA in October 2017 and surprisingly dropped out in the ÖHB Cup quarter-finals against UHC Müllner Bau Stockerau at 19:24. Despite some upheavals in the squad, the Südtädter women were able to win the basic round. On April 7, 2018, Hypo NÖ took a clear revenge against UHC Stockerau with a 37:12 victory.

There were signs of dissolution at the relegated Union APG Korneuburg Handball Women, who had to do without a professional coach in the final phase of the championship.

Hypo NÖ was handball champion for the 42nd time in a row. UHC Müllner Bau Stockerau was the cup winner with a 27:26 final victory over Union St. Pölten (women).

Others

The "Under 18" (WHA U18) junior competition will be held parallel to the WHA competition (basic round only).

The second highest division is the Bundesliga women (BLF) with 8 teams. After the regular round, the ranking and final table will be determined in an upper and lower playoff.
