The Austrian Art Prize for Current Issues of the Year was awarded annually from 2003 to 2009 and in 2012 by the Austrian Ministry of Education and represented a separate section of the Austrian Art Prize . It was one of the group of state prizes of the Republic of Austria . The prize was awarded to established cultural workers and cultural initiatives for their commitment to current topics of the year.

History and endowment

The Austrian Art Prize, an appreciation prize up to 2009 , is awarded to established artists “for their extensive, internationally recognized oeuvre”. It is awarded annually or biennially ( children's and youth literature ) in various categories . The origins of individual price categories go back to 1972. In 2003, an additional prize category was set up for established cultural workers and initiatives that deal with current topics of the year. This prize was awarded until 2009 (as an appreciation prize ) and most recently again in 2012. The award winners were selected by an independent jury of experts ; an application was not possible.
