Austrian Art Prize

The Austrian Art Prize , which is an appreciation prize until 2009 , is awarded by the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture and belongs to the group of state prizes of the Republic of Austria .

It is awarded to established artists "for their extensive, internationally recognized oeuvre". It is awarded annually or biennially ( children's and youth literature ) in various categories . The origins of individual price categories go back to 1972. In 2013, an additional prize category was set up for established initiatives by cultural workers. The winners of the Austrian Art Prize are selected by independent expert juries and, in this area, in the form of an advisory board ; an application is not possible.

The prize was initially endowed with 12,000  euros in prize money. In 2017 the prize money was 15,000 euros.

Since 2010 , the art prize has replaced a series of appreciation prizes that were awarded by this ministry until 2009.

Similarly, the sponsorship awards given by the ministry were reorganized and converted into the Outstanding Artist Awards .
