The Adolf Loos State Prize for Design is an Austrian state prize that is awarded every two years in connection with the private sector.

History, organization

The award named after Adolf Loos has replaced the “State Prize for Good Form” and “State Prize Design” , which were awarded with interruptions from 1962 to 1997, and the “ State Prize for Creative Crafts ” , which was awarded from 1989 to 1996 , since 2001 .

The prize is awarded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs , Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien , designaustria, the Association of Austrian Designers and the Federal Chancellery . The winners are selected by an international jury made up of experts from the fields of theory, design, architecture and media.

Since 2001 manufacturers of products with an exceptional design have been honored. The prize is currently awarded in three categories, namely for "Spatial design", "Product design" and "Capital and consumer goods". As a prize of the Republic of Austria, the Adolf Loos State Prize is also internationally oriented.

The Adolf Loos State Prize for Design is an undoped honorary award. There is also an endowed Adolf Loos Design Prize , which has been endowed with 40,000 euros by the Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien since 2005 . However, this does not count as a state award.
