Österreichischer Verband Filmschnitt , also English Austrian Editors Association (aea) , is the name of the professional interest group for freelance film editors in Austria. The association was founded on June 25, 1978, at that time under the name of the Association of Austrian Film Editing Masters . It is based in the Filmhaus in Vienna .

Articles of Association

The purpose of the association is, according to the statutes, "to safeguard, maintain and promote the professional and economic interests" of Austrian film editors and assistants. This takes place “towards the radio and television companies, the film industry, the trade unions as well as the ministries and legislative bodies”, as well as “in all areas of television and film production and the resulting legislation and regulations.” The association also deals “with the Establishing and maintaining relevant international relationships. "

Engagement in umbrella associations and other organizations

In 1987, the Film Editing Association was a founding member of the umbrella association of Austrian filmmakers and in the same year co-founded the Austrian Film Commission , which promotes Austrian film abroad. In 1992, the association co-founder was the collecting society of filmmakers (VDF) , which the copyright and neighboring rights represented by filmmakers in Austria in trust. The Film Editing Association is represented with a seat and a vote on the board of directors and on the supervisory board of VdFS. In 2019 the association became a founding member of the international umbrella association for film editors, TEMPO.

Use for cutting prices

Since 2005, the Film Editing Association has been awarding the Diagonale Editing Prize in the categories of feature film and documentary film as part of the Diagonale film festival in Graz . The prize money is donated by the VdFS. Since 2013, the association has also been a sponsoring partner of the Cologne festival Edimotion (which was called Filmplus until 2020 ), which means that its cutting awards in the categories of feature film, feature documentary film and young short film are also open to Austrian editors.

In July 2020 the association had 87 active members and nine honorary members. A person can be accepted as a “full member” after having worked “verifiably two years full-time” as an editor or assistant.

Board

The board of the association consists of twelve people who are elected every two years at a general assembly. The new board elected in 2020 includes: Sonja Lesowksy-List (chairwoman), Claudia Linzer (chairwoman), Julia Drack , Lisa Zoe Geretschläger , Karin Hammer , Anna Kirst , Ulrike Kofler , Christoph Loidl , Niki Mossböck , Sebastian Schreiner , Joana Scrinzi and Kirk from Heflin .

Until 2020 Daniela Padalewski-Gerber was the chairwoman of the association; she filled this office since 1990, that is for thirty years. Other predecessors were: Lotte Klimitschek (1978–1979), Juno Sylva Englander (1980–1986), Traude Gruber , (1987–1988), and Ingrid Koller (1989).
