The ČSD class E 669.1 (from 1988: class 181 ) is a six-axle electric freight locomotive of the former Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD for the 3 kV direct current system in the north and east of the former Czechoslovakia . It was developed as a further development from the six-axle series E 669.0 .
development
After the two prototypes E 669.001 and 002 fulfilled the expectations placed in them, the series locomotives were manufactured at Škoda in Plzeň in 1961 and 1962 based on their design . The locomotives were built in two series (001-080) and (081-150). The locomotives of the first series had a reduced power, as they were designed for operation on 1.5 kV direct current with low power in the traction motors.
The locomotives were produced exclusively for heavy freight train service, where they should avoid double -skinning of the ČSD series E 469.0 , and for pushing service .
In the years 1960 to 1976, an export variant for the USSR was derived from the locomotive , which operated there under the name ČS 2.
technical features
The locomotives are box locomotives with driver's cabs at both ends and a centrally closed engine room in between. The body of the locomotives is welded with steel plates, and its design looks like the other Škoda locomotives of the 1st generation. He only has one step to the driver's cab, on the left.
The bogies are mounted to the frame of the locomotive body via the pivot pin and are secondarily sprung. Originally this suspension was done with a leaf spring, after a later reconstruction it was replaced by a package of coil springs, which carries the locomotive body . The axles are sprung with 2 leaf springs in the bogie frame. The middle axle has a wheel tire that has been weakened by 10 mm. Both bogies are connected to one another by a coupling.
The locomotive is controlled by a resistance control, which is controlled electropneumatically via a main controller. The main controller is operated by the travel switch. The locomotive has 42 speed steps. The traction drive motors are designed as pawl bearing drive motors and are switched in three excitation forms; 1st series (6 traction motors in series, U = 500 V), 2nd series parallel 1 (2 sets with 3 traction motors each in series, U = 1 kV) and 3rd series parallel 2 (3 sets with 2 motors in series, U = 1.5 kV). The locomotives are equipped with anti-skid protection and a safety driving circuit .
commitment
The locomotives impressed from the start with their enormous pulling power and their quiet track position in front of heavy trains. Their simple construction and reliability are also very advantageous. Although they are very old, they are still popular machines. Also emphasized was the calm of the auxiliaries opposite the 121 and 141 series .
Their main disadvantage, however, was that the three-axle bogie in the curve had to reduce the speed, otherwise the wheel tires of the three-axle bogies would damage the rails. Due to this property, and due to the decreasing transport performance in freight traffic, the vehicles are largely replaced by the new 163 series , which thanks to its two-axle bogies avoids such deformation of the superstructure.
All locomotives were only part of the ČD portfolio . Although four-axle locomotives are sufficient for today's transport services, some locomotives of the large freight train electric locomotive are still in service.
